History

Created in 1998 by Jared Leto (vocals, guitar), and his brother Shannon (drums), "30 Seconds to Mars began as a small family project. Things started to work fairly quickly and soon Matt Wachter joined the band on bass, like Solon Bixler (guitar) and Kevin Drake (guitar) would, but the permanence of the latter would be considerably less. In January, A Beautiful Lie was certified platinum by the RIAA for selling over 1,000,000 albums.In October, the band started their tour "Welcome to the Universe", sponsored by MTV2. They were also accompanied on the tour with various bands, including Cobra Starship. On November 20, MTV2 aired the video for "From Yesterday" for the first time, the video is the first American rock music video that was filmed entirely in China. The video is based briefly in the film Last Emperor on 1 March 2007, the band's bassist, Matt Wachter announced his end as part of the band in a live show in El Paso, Texas. This was confirmed the next day with a statement on its website. Since then he was replaced by Tim Kelleher, who was seen playing in the band's concerts. On 29 April 2007, the band performed at the MTV Australia Video Music Awards, where they had been nominated for three awards.
